The house is situated within 10 minutes walking distance of the centre of St. Remy, a delightful old market town in the heart of the Alpilles area of Provence. The lovely old town centre has pretty streets, delightful shops and quiet squares and the lively boulevard surrounding the centre offers a great choice of lively cafes and restaurants. The whole area is rich in history. The ancient Roman town of 'Glanum', the St. Paul Mausoleum from where Van Gogh produced many of his paintings of the region, and the beautiful Alpilles mountains are a short drive away. Pine forests, olive groves and vineyards provide the quintessential provencal landscape. The historic cities of Avignon, Arles, Nimes and Aix en Provence are within easy exploring distance. The UNESCO world heritage site of the Pont du Gard, the perched villages of the Parc Naturel du Luberon and the Camargue are also very close as is the Mediterranean sea - within an hours drive. There is also range of sports and activities available in the area including walking, golf, tennis and horse riding.


The House

Baltus is a pretty provencal single storey house in a quiet location on the outskirts of the town with views of the Alpilles to the south and surrounded by a charming Provençal garden with an ancient olive tree, rosemary, thyme and walls covered by honeysuckle, jasmine and climbing roses. The house has private off street parking with automatic gates for secure parking and privacy.

The house has been recently been restored by its architect owner to a comfortable house with many interesting features and all modern comforts. There is a large and well equipped kitchen with fridge freezer, oven & hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The kitchen leads through to living/ dining room which look out onto the garden and have a wood burning stove. On the first floor is a large galleried double aspect living room leading up to the second floor sitting room with views across the fields. The house has a CD Hifi, DVD and video and television (French channels only) for entertainment and the house has broadband internet connection.

There are three bedrooms. The bedrooms comprise one double with king size bed, one double with queen size bed and one twin. The main bedroom with 180cm double bed has an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and basin and separate WC . The bedroom has doors out to the gravelled courtyard & garden. The second bathroom with a large stand up shower, basinand WC serves bedrooms 2 and 3 both of which have twin beds that can be joined to make a double.

The large 12 x 5 metre swimming pool in the pretty garden at the rear of the house, has a pool house which offers shade for dining near the pool. There is a charcoal grill bbq and plenty of areas to eat and relax outside, whether under the shade of the old almond tree or beneath the spreading mulberry lying in a hammock.

Bedlinen, towels and pool towels are provided.



 
Booking Conditions & Rental Cost 2008

The rent includes all services except the cost of telephone calls, heating in the cooler months and a charge for cleaning at the end of your stay.

If you are considering renting the house outside of these dates please contact us to discuss the cost.

We ask for half the rent at the time of booking and the balance six weeks before the start of your holiday. If booking is within 6 weeks of arrival we require full payment at the time of booking. A damages deposit of 400€ is payable direct to the owner on arrival. Any breakages or damage will be made against the deposit, together with the cost of telephone calls made during your stay, heating charges if applicable and the cost of the cleaning at the end of your stay and the balance returned to you. Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. In order to clean and check the house we ask guests to arrive between after 4 p.m. and to leave before 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure.

In case of cancellation, the reservation deposit will be retained unless we can re-let or the whole payment if six weeks or less before the start of your intended stay. If we can re-let our additional expenditure, including advertising, will be deducted and the rest returned to you. We would therefore strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance which covers cancellation. This is widely available, for example from airlines, ferry companies, and the AA.
