La Haute Bastide

Provencal Mas with own pool, Saignon
Sleeps up to 15

La Haute Bastide is situated in the countryside just outside the village of Saignon in the heart of the Parc Naturel du Luberon in a secluded situation with superb views. Saignon is a pretty village with a boulangerie and restaurants and the town of Apt is just a short drive away with bigger supermarkets and shops. The house is ideally located for exploring this lovely area of southern Provence with its pretty perched villages and beautiful countryside.

The House

La Haute Bastide is a restored stone built provencal mas dating from 1789 and comprises two separate buildings linked together by a large entrance hall/living room. The house is in a spectacular and tranquil situation in the countryside in large grounds of 20 hectares. The grounds are surrounded by fields and from the house the views are superb – a panoramic view of the Luberon mountains to the south and of Mont Ventoux, the Vaucluse hills and the distant Alpes de Haute Provence to the north.

The property has been tastefully restored and furnished throughout. All the rooms are very light and airy and the whole house offers a large amount of living space both inside and out. The part of the house to the right of the entrance hall comprises a large living room which opens out onto the terrace with its pretty fountain and onto the south facing garden with views of the Luberon hills. Two large double bedrooms, both en suite, are reached from the mezzanine corridor above the living room. A large and very well equipped farmhouse kitchen is also in this section of the house and this also leads directly out onto the terrace.

The part of the house to the left of the entrance hall is the oldest part of the property. Here is another large living/games room, four double bedrooms (one with ensuite shower room), two bathrooms and a bedroom with three single beds suitable for children.

A large terrace occupies the whole of the south side of the property with shady areas for eating out – one under the murier tree in front of the kitchen, another under the pergola by the bassin and fountain at the eastern end of the terrace. A walkway covered by a vine covered pergola leads to 14 x 7 metre swimming pool with its pool house and sun loungers. The pool is surrounded by a grassy area and is secured by a gated fence.

The house has a television for entertainment. Linen and towels are included together with a cleaning service at the end of your stay. The house has direct dial telephone and internet access. There is a trampoline and bicycles are also available to guests.

The East Wing

For smaller parties the East Wing of the house is available for rental at a reduced rate. This wing comprises two large double ensuite bedrooms, the large living room and farmhouse kitchen. Please note that the bedrooms in this part of the house have double beds only. The East Wing accommodates 2 or 4 people in comfortable style with lots of living space and the pool is available exclusively to East Wing guests.

If there are guests in residence in the East Wing, the remaining part of the house is not let although it may be possible that the artist owner is in residence occasionally. If the owner is in residence, the pool is available exclusively to East Wing guests between the hours of 11 a.m. and 18.00 p.m.

We ask for half the rent at the time of booking and the balance six weeks before the start of your holiday. If booking is within 6 weeks of arrival we require full payment at the time of booking. We also require a £1600 deposit against damages as a separate cheque which should be sent at the time of making final payment. All telephone charges, breakage's, etc. will be made against the deposit and the balance returned to you. Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. In order to have time to check the house, change beds, clean the pool and tidy the garden etc. we ask guests to arrive between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and to leave at 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure.

In case of cancellation, the reservation deposit will be retained unless we can re-let or the whole payment if six weeks or less before the start of your intended stay. If we can re-let our additional expenditure, including advertising, will be deducted and the rest returned to you. We would therefore strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance which covers cancellation. This is widely available, for example from airlines, ferry companies, and the AA.
