Motorail
Motorail services to Avignon run from late May to mid September and offer an excellent way to travel if you prefer not to drive long distances through France but to have the convenience of your own car for your holiday. Trains depart Calais early in the evening and arrive in Avignon early the following morning. There is a wide choice of sleeping accommodation from 4 and 6 berth couchettes to 2 berth first class sleeping compartments. Flight options
Flying and hiring a car means you can take advantage of the low cost flight options from many regional airports and many of our guests are choosing this method of travel to Provence.
The most convenient airports for your holiday are Marseille or Nimes which are within 1 to 1hour 30 minutes drive of all the houses on provenceholidayhouses.com. However other airports can also be convenient where it means you are able to take advantage of a low cost direct flight from your local airport and just have a longer driving time to your holiday area on arrival in France. We think that this convenience combined with the ease of French motorway driving makes this is a very viable flight option.
So in addition to Marseille and Nimes, we list below the other airports you could consider and the estimated drive time from these airports to our area of Provence together with the airlines which currently fly there from UK regional airports. Just click on the links for details of timetables, availability and fares.
Another option you could consider if your regional airport does not offer direct flights to one of the destinations below, would be to fly from your local airport to Paris, Charles de Gaulle. From here there is an onward rail connection by TGV direct from the airport terminal - a fast and frequent service to Avignon in a journey time of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Car hire is readily available at Avignon TGV station and can be pre-booked direct with all the major car rental companies.
Please note the information we give below is up to date to the best of our knowledge. New routes are being introduced all the time and additional routes are often operated during the summer months so we always recommend checking with your local airport to see what flight options may be available.
Car Hire
If you are arriving in the area by rail or air you can collect a hire car directly from your arrival railway station or airport. Bookings can be made direct with the car hire companies either via their websites or by phone. Details of some of the main car hire companies and links to their websites are below.
You may find that the best car hire rate is offered by one of the preferred partners of the airline with which you are travelling and it is always worth checking this option before booking car hire direct.
